Consultancy projects

Our team at the world-renowned Wolfson Unit for Marine Technology and Industrial Aerodynamics (WUMTIA) worked with UK Sport to provide knowledge and insights into cycling and many other leading sports.

Our experts at ISVR Consulting measured and assessed crew noise exposures in civil aircraft for three airlines, in light aircraft used for training flight crew, and in helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft used by police air support units.

Our experts at the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI) work with large companies helping to tackle some of the major challenges facing the marine environment and society at large, and engages with local companies to help maximise their competitiveness on the global stage to ensure wealth creation and new employment for the region and the wider UK.

Environmental sensing @ Southampton

Environmental sensing @ Southampton is a unique University based research and consultancy facility, specialising in using state-of-the-art environmental sensing equipment, coupled with world-leading expertise in Geomorphology and Environmental Science, to tackle real world issues.

We specialise in: Development and application of novel environmental monitoring for natural systems and Nature Based Solutions; Drone surveys and bespoke data processing pipelines for commercial and research activity; Collection of hydrographic surveys (fluvial and shallow coastal) using autonomous boats and multibeam echo sounding. Materials Characterisation

SOES offers a range of materials characterisation facilities which can be useful in identifying materials and investigating their properties. The facilities available include Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Elemental and Isotopic Characterisation by Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS Research Facility), Stable Isotope Analysis (SIRMS Laboratory) and a Material Preparation Facility.

nC2 Engineering Consultancy offer solutions to industry in the fields of tribology, surface science and materials engineering. The state of the art equipment utilised can produce abrasive, corrosive or erosive simulated environments providing material testing for industrial customers, who include sports, oil & gas, manufacturing, transport and medical sectors.

The nC² staff, working with resident academics use forensic materials examination and characterisation techniques to investigate and diagnose component failures, providing documented evidence where needed.
