About the project

We are offering a fully funded PhD project in collaboration with the Economics and Social Research Council's (ESRC) South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership, to investigate the social impact of the successful ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaign.

The ‘Black Lives Matters’ movement has won support from many business organisations. In this project, you’ll evaluate how effective race-specific campaigns are in improving the wellbeing of target populations, such as the black community.

You’ll also explore whether other ethnic minority groups, such as Asians and East Europeans, feel more hope and solidarity or more excluded and marginalised by these race-specific campaigns. Would this affect their support of businesses who engage in race-specific activism?

This project takes a multi-disciplinary approach across:

  • psychology
  • marketing
  • economics
  • demography

The ideal applicant will have an understanding of advanced quantitative methodologies including secondary data analysis, surveys and qualitative experiments.

This is a supervisor led PhD project for equality, diversity and inclusion. We encourage candidates from under-represented backgrounds to apply.
